For doctors
The Fachsprachprüfung (FSP) tests medical German at level C1 and is required for the Approbation or a temporary licence to practise. The state medical chamber runs it, usually in three parts of 20 minutes each. Here you practise your chamber's exam: the same parts, the same times, marked on the chamber's own sheet.
Each chamber examines by its own rules. Tap yours to see its exam and practise it.
1
You take the history of a patient played by a member of the panel or an actor, in plain everyday German. Some chambers end it with an explanation of a procedure.
2
You write the conversation up: depending on the chamber on a history form, as a short report or as a doctor's letter, by hand or on a computer.
3
You present the patient to a senior doctor in medical German and answer questions. Many chambers finish with a list of medical terms to translate.
Not the same everywhere: Hessen and Sachsen-Anhalt examine in four parts, Rheinhessen in six. Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern give the written part more time. Saarland runs no exam of its own, and candidates from Schleswig-Holstein sit it in Rostock.
€89.00 per chamber, one payment, no subscription.
Fees, registration, permitted aids and retakes for every chamber are in the guides, with source and date.
